Silver Bolero:
A trovador exists by playing the guitar and signing as they travel from place to place. It grew in popularity in Latin America and Mexico around 1921. Agustin Lara of Mexico and Rafael Hernandez of Puerto Rico are two of the top composers of bolero.
It was introduced to the United States in the mid 1930's, at this point it was still performed in its classical style. It's special place in the heart of American dance led to the composition by Joseph-Maurice Ravel and was named after him. The bolero was performed by Ida Rubenstein at the grand opening performance at the Paris Opera House in 1928. Since other styles have resembled it such as the Valldemosa bolero, the Bolero Viejo o parado and the Columbian Pasillo colombiano.
It is a standard in American rhythm dance performance. America, Spain and Cuba love it, it never fails to render romance and love in its audiences. It is often referred to as the dance of love in Cuba, the triple meter time is characterized by it sensuous and dreamy rhythm. It has an intoxicating melody that overwhelms the performer and fills the air. It is a left turning dance that is dependent on the rotation of the body and the supporting foot that results in a backward or forward pivot. It has a rising and falling motion to it and is a combination of waltz, tango and rumba techniques. The patterns of the feet closely resemble the rumba and its origin reveals ties with befuine and danzon folk dances.
In Cuba it underwent several changes, it began as 2/4 time and then changed to 4/4. It has a box style like the rumba, on the first two beats there is a sweeping side glide and then two steps forward. The triple meter has three steps performed to four beats with the first beginning on the second beat.
